How to remove rust

Rust is composed by iron oxides and can be easily removed from iron object using chemical or mechanical methods.

Mechanical methods that can be used to remove rust from iron or steel object are for example grinding or blasting.

Chemical methods are based on acid or gel that dissolve the layer or oxides or convert them into a more stable material.

What is important before you try to remove rust from a metallic object is to define the type of metal.

Someone think that the same methods applies both to iron or steel and to stainless steel or other metallic materials.

This in not correct, every material shall be treated in a different way in order to avoid damaginng the object that you want to restore or clean.

What we call rust is the result of the corrosion of iron or steel, but all metallic materials can undergo a corrosion process and develop oxides.
