Question: What about corrosion of SS?
Answer: Stainless Steel are considered as corrosion resistant alloy (CRA). This means that they will resist where low alloy steel or carbon steel will fail. Stainless Steel are not immune to corrosion in all environments. High chloride content, strong acids are some environments where even stainless steel can suffer severe corrosion attack. Usually the form of corrosion on stainless steel is localized: pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion or stress corrosion cracking. There are different types of SS, ferritic, austenitic, martensitic, super-austenitic.. each with different corrosion resistance.
